April into May

Where has April gone? It's mostly been eaten up in sickness and just getting on.

But while we were off recovering Spring has well and truly arrived. The snow is gone, the sun has been almost continuous. We've down-shifted to spring clothes and have spent most of our days at the park again.

We're off to Scotland in a few days for a bit of a break and a chance to spend time with friends and family. Really looking forward to it, but haven't done a thing to get sorted yet. Well, I have my lists: lists of what to take and what to bring back, of people to see and places to go. And I'm doing laundry, but I'm always doing laundry.

The plan is to take as little as possible and then do some major shopping to stock up on summer gear. I also plan to raid the loft and bring some things back with us. So just need to throws the basics in, give the house a clean and off we go - in theory.

Someone recently pointed out that a holiday with children isn't really a holiday, just the same stuff, done in a different place without all the comforts of home. But at least we're going somewhere that will have some home comforts and will have friends and family to entertain the kids a bit more than just me all day.

So the beginning of our second year in Finland will start in Scotland which suits me just fine.

Colours of Melting Spring

Spring is finally here and it has made such a difference in everyone's mood. I've had a burst of energy and have started spring cleaning. The kids are loving being able to get out and play without all the cold weather battle gear. Foo loves puddles and ends up soaked most days even with his waterproofs and wellies. Mousie is getting back  into the swing of sandpits. Bumptious is desperate to get out and crawl amongst stuff. She'd prefer to walk, but hasn't gotten beyond cruising and walking with our hands yet.

We bought a year pass to the zoo last week, so can see us spending lots of time there over the next few months. Most of the animals were asleep but it was nice to get out in the sunshine and do something for a change except try to get back indoors.
The snow is melting quickly, it'll all be gone next week except the biggest piles.

Croci, snowdrops and other bulbs are desperately pushing up as soon as the snow thins. I've bought some flowers to replace the winter lanterns for the front steps. Bright pansies and soon to blossom daffodils, lovely to get a bit of dirt under my fingernails again.
We had a visit from the witches of Palm Sunday with their willow wands covered in catkins, feathers and paper flowers. They wished us -"Virvoin, varvoin, tuoreeks, terveeks, tulevaks vuodeks, vitsa sulle, palkka mulle" which is a kind of 'trick or treat' offering you good health and a good year if you accept their wands and pay then in chocolate. Kind payment was made, so here's hoping for some good luck for this new year in Finland.
